Wensum Valley: The wonderful River Wensum is not a big river, but one of the best conserved chalk rivers in England. The river, along with 20 adjoining bits of wetland on the flood plain is protected as a "Special Area of Conservation" (SAC). This makes it part of an international network of the best areas of wildlife habitat in Europe. Other habitats such as heath, woodland and farmland hedges are on the drier sides of the valley. The River rises near Whissonsett and flows through one of the most unspoiled valleys in England about 45 miles to Norwich.
